Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-codec-install

Opening an mp3 in a default karmic (alpha 3 is when I tested) will
result in an error message rather than offering to install support for
mp3s. Installing ubuntu-restricted-extras manually makes everything
work as expected.
