This IOError actually has nothing to do with what browser is set as the
preferred. The issue was that on successful launch of the browser, we
were still trying to read from STDERR, which Python apparently does not
like, raising the IOError exception. This is fixed in trunk, and I will
be making a release today to get an updated package in Karmic, which
also includes a few other important fixes.
