The Karmic 64-bit Live CD booted perfectly for me on a HP Pavilion
dv6700t SE | Core 2 Duo T9300 | 4 GB RAM | 160 GB HD | nVidia 8400M GS
(256 MB) | Intel 4965 AGN WiFi.

Without installing nvidia drivers, on battery power, I had just a black
screen upon resume though it seemed to resume just without x running.
Didn't check AC power/

When I installed nvidia-glx-180 and restarted x (via sudo
/etc/init.d/gdm restart), I was able to successfully suspend and resume
on both battery and AC power. X is running properly with no delay or
any other issue. The 'Hardware Drivers' screen still says I need to
restart the computer (can't on Live CD), but synaptic package manager
shows the driver as installed. The NVIDIA X Server Settings program
under System>Administration is operative. And the nvidia driver shows
as loaded under /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Hope that helps. Seems to be a
step in the right direction!
