Okay, thanks for the reply. I guess I didn't appreciate that Kubuntu 8.04 is not an LTS release. I assumed it was, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered reporting the bug. That in fact could explain some other issues I've been having.
Now I can put my effort into getting Kubuntu 9.04 working. :-) Unfortunately I've had poor results with some of the X drivers (bug reports filed).
