Oops, I take back that comment! It does still happen intermittently:
$ zgrep SYSTEM_CONFIG /var/log/kern.log*|cut -d ':' -f 2 | sort | uniq -c

(That's month, day, hour.)
I suspend only very rarely (because things like wireless sometimes don't
work afterwards... hmm) and never hibernate (it's been broken since I
upgraded to Jaunty). But at least that spurt on July 27 seems to have
occurred right after a resume from sleep:
$ zgrep "suspend devices" /var/log/kern.log* | cut -d : -f 2- | sort
Jul 13 17:05:05 tigris kernel: [24670.896701] PM: suspend devices took 2.792
seconds
Jul 19 17:11:39 tigris kernel: [ 1149.352704] PM: suspend devices took 3.160
seconds
Jul 2 13:47:21 tigris kernel: [ 206.416694] PM: suspend devices took 3.404
seconds
Jul 27 16:46:30 tigris kernel: [22419.816881] PM: suspend devices took 3.552
seconds
Jul 9 14:13:18 tigris kernel: [ 9538.560698] PM: suspend devices took 3.476
seconds
Jun 15 23:40:29 tigris kernel: [ 5534.624684] PM: suspend devices took 3.128
seconds
So suspend seems to be related to _some_ of those occurrences.
Maybe the other subscribers could report similar stats from their
systems?
