I even removed pulseaudio to use Alsa instead => no fix. Updated Jaunty with kernel version 2.6.28-14 and reinstalled pulseaudio => worked a few minutes and then the sound glitches started again.
I don't know if this problem is related to pulseaudio or if this is a kernel problem, but to me Jaunty has just been dead space on my hard drive for more than 3 months.
