Yes, you can trigger it early.  You use the tune2fs command.  From
memory you would put: sudo tune2fs -c(the number of boots you want
before it checks) (the HD of the linux install /dev/****).  You can
confirm by looking at the tune2fs man page.

*** Make sure that you put it back to 30 boots, or whatever you want,
after you are done.  Otherwise your mom will have a disk check every
time she boots.
