Public bug reported:

The master sound volume control in the gnome-volume-control has neither
influence to the volume of the external speakers nor to the internal speaker.
Instead the headphone volume control takes this role.
The PC is a HP Vectra VL 420MT. It has one connector for sound output and an
internal speaker.
