Hi Shane, This error first occurred when I took the computer with me to Canada and connected wirelessly to a friend's Router. The problem was repeatable and occurred each time that either Synaptic or Update Manager was run.
I have just now managed to clear the error by opening a Terminal session and entering : sudo apt-get update That seemed to download the package list and cleared the error. I hope this helps.
