** Description changed: Dell optiplex gx620 with 8gb of ram. Ubuntu 9.04 64bit only recognizes 3.4gb of the 8gb installed. dmesg reports 0.000000] WARNING: BIOS bug: CPU MTRRs don't cover all of memory, losing 4096MB of RAM. However, my BIOS recognizes and reports all 8gb properly. + + Update: I dont see how to delete this bug, so i'll update it. After + running memtest86 and also finally finding the documentation on my + chipset, it looks like this is a limitation of my chipset only + addressing 4gb. + + However, with only 4gb of ram in the system, it still only sees 3.4 and + not 4gb. I'm not sure if that is a bug. I found some discussion + threads suggesting that the missing ram is being taken up by the pci + bus. Not sure though.
