Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.28-13-generic
While attempting to use Update Manager to install
linux-image-2.6.28-13-generic_2.6.28-13-generic I saw a message indicating that
a crash was detected. The error message that popped up said:
E:
/var/cache/apt/archives/linux-image-2.6.28-13-generic_2.6.28-13.45_amd64.deb:
short read in buffer_copy (backend dpkg-deb during
`./lib/modules/2.6.28-13-generic/kernel/sound/core/seq/snd-seq.ko')
I attempted to fix the problem myself by looking into what
"/lib/modules/2.6.28-13-generic/kernel/sound/core/seq/snd-seq.ko" is,
and, of the two results, one was about Dell notebooks. It might be
relevant that I'm running a Dell XPS M1730.
The "Update is complete" dialog has a slightly different error message that
reads:
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/linux-image-2.6.28-13-generic_2.6.28-13.45_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:
