This is likely an issue with the script 'install-info' that you have installed. There are two 'install-info' scripts that exist, a Debian one and a GNU one. Generally, the Debian one should be used by package installations but it seems that the GNU is being tried instead. I would check your $PATH variable and ensure that the Debian version of 'install-info' is before the GNU one so package management software can work again. Additionally, this issue is being resolved with the deprecation of the the Debian version of install-info in Karmic.
