I'm also having these "can't reset hardware (-5)" and changing the
kernel doesn't help. I tried with 2.6.28-14, 2.6.30 from here
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30/ and 2.6.31 from
karmic.
