I agree that the current icon isn't the best as it doesn't mean anything at the 
first glance. But it can be said for other icons from your screenshot - Ekiga, 
Firefox and Pidgin all has icons that has nothing to do with their purpose.
Ekiga and Pidgin are replaced in Karmic by Empathy that has a better icon but 
Firefox stays and the logo is staying with it.
BitTorrent's "logo" from http://www.bittorrent.com/ also means nothing and is 
impossible to squeeze into small icon. Also no other client I've seen has a 
better, more meaningful logo.
I'd love to see some more input from Artwork team, I'll ask on ubuntu-art for 
comment.
