FWIW, Zoom in/out/normal would have been added only to the right-click menu for the Desktop, and not the menu for files on the Desktop. I just meant to illustrate there might be other ways to do this.
I see you want more thought on this. I never meant to blindly remove functionality without consideration. @A. Walton, I don't want to play UI designer on this one. I just want a sensible discussion _with_ UI designers who are willing to re-look at the functionality. I realise it is more appropriate to discuss this on a mailing list.
