I'm using an up to date Karmic instalation. uname:

The steps before the problem:
- I turn on the laptop;
- Copy some files from USB mp3 player;
- System -> Off -> Suspend;
- 1 hour sleeping
- Open the laptop and press the "On" button.
- Black screen.
- Try to switch for term 1 "Ctrl+Alt+F1" : does not works;
- Try some times to swith 1 and 7...
- Force reboot bay the hardware.
