Can you please post exactly the steps you took that invoked the failure, the symptom as you see it, and what you did to recover? We've never seen anything like this on SuSE or Red Hat-based distros, and I was unable to make an Inspiron 6400 fail in any manner with several versions of Ubuntu. With details on how you're reproducing the failure, perhaps we can actually find it. Also, what's your BIOS version on the PE840?
