That notwithstanding, I would like this to be triaged as a bug. I
believe the default Ubuntu configuration should provide the $PWD
variable in the 'sudo' environment. This is a fairly important variable
to be missing, whereas there are lots of other variables of dubious
value (e.g., LS_COLORS) that are present, so I think it would make sense
to keep it.
This isn't hypothetical, by the way. I discovered this because someone
had put a line like
DEST=$(PWD)/
in a Makefile. That fails pretty horribly if PWD is missing (e.g., DEST
is set to '/').
