I also have a similar problem except, that my pc's speaker has sound and headphone doesn't. I Also have a "Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)" audio device. My ubuntu version is 9.04 AMD64, and runs on an Acer Aspire 7730G Laptop
