Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
I am able to make video work on this system running the 6.06 LTS
live/desktop CD, manually selecting the screen resolution.
But I am unable to get Xorg to work under later releases. In this case,
I installed 8.10 using the alternate install disk installing text-only,
then tried to install Gnome and Xfce (and dependencies) using apt-get. I
was unable to get Xorg to start.

DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 8.10"
Linux max 2.6.27-14-generic #1 SMP Fri Jul 24 22:19:33 UTC 2009 i586 GNU/Linux
model name : AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor
cpu MHz : 400.900
This system is set up to dual-boot into Linux and FreeBSD 7.1. Xorg and
Gnome do work under FreeBSD (though it is a bit slow).
I tried loading the vesa driver as well; that doesn't work either.
I was unable to install at all from a 9.04 alternate CD, though I
believe I added RAM since I tried that.
I am attaching various configuration and log files.
