And yes, you should be able to install Ubuntu on completely blank hard
disks with no particular problems. The automatic partitioner will deal
with that all by itself, or if you want to do manual partitioning then
selecting the disk will prompt you to create a partition table. (This is
a very well-tested case, as we do a lot of testing in virtual machines
and those usually start with blank virtual disks.)
