I have a 20" Intel iMac, too. Both Edgy i386 and Feisty Herd 2 i386 have the same problem. The boot menue works fine, but X does not work correctly. The ATI Radeon X1600 destroys the screen completely. Chosing safe mode in the boot menu did not do the trick.
