If there is no cross-linux desktop API, then perhaps we can cheat and detect the desktop environment with the extension, or perhaps, make it configurable in the addon configuration window. The point is mozilla is not going to resolve this problem until a lot of time, so instead of waiting for that, we could create a quick and dirty fix with a firefox addon. @John Vivirito > Sorry, but this bug is huge and it is difficult to see the main informations.
