I am using Samba 2:3.4.0-1ubuntu2 on the server, and 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3.1 on the client. (The server is an up-to-date Karmic machine, and the client is an up-to-date Jaunty machine).
This only showed up when I moved from Windows to Linux as the server (the client CIFS mounting stayed the same).
