I first thought, it was a defect hard drive (SATA external via USB) when
I saw the exact same error messages as above:

[ 2559.265302] end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 0
[ 2559.265323] Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 0
[ 2559.265335] Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 1
[ 2559.265343] Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 2
[ 2559.265352] Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 3
[ 2559.265359] Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 4
[ 2559.265367] Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 5
[ 2559.265375] Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 6
[ 2559.265383] Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 7
[ 2559.269937] sd 28:0:0:0: [sdc] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR
driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK
[ 2559.269967] end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 0

So I went to repair it but the guy there told me that the HD was totally
okay. So I tried mounting the box under windows and it worked like a
charm.

I don't have the problem on any USB device though. The small usb storage
devices work. But external HD's connected via USB(2) don't.
