Public bug reported:
I am using Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 on Dell Studio 1555
(http://www1.ap.dell.com/in/en/home/notebooks/laptop-studio-1555/pd.aspx?refid=laptop-studio-1555&s=dhs&cs=indhs1)
The brightness key works after booting for a while. But after using the
laptop for 5-10 mins the key stops working. It doesn't allow me to
change the brightness. The brightness notification simply pops up but
the brightness wouldn't change. The brightness stays as it is.
Sometimes the brightness won't work even after boot. But when it does,
it only works for 5-10 mins after booting.
Some work around was found in ubuntu forum but I think it may do damage to my
laptop.
1.Edit the GRUB menu.lst file by running the following code in the terminal
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
2.Look for the line
# defoptions=quiet splash
and change it to
# defoptions=quiet splash noapic
Save the file and close the text editor.
3.Now update grub by running-
sudo update-grub
4.Reboot your laptop. Your brightness buttons should work perfectly fine now.
