Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: ldm
This suggestion is of importance for environments where users are
required to switch languages, such as foreign languages classes.
For instance, Alex is a high school student using thin clients both for
English and French classes. Alex is required by the teacher to log into
the environment in French in order to learn by "immersion". Alex uses
the Preferences menu to do so and logs into the environment in French
for the duration of the class.
Later this day Alex has an English course. He logs into the thin client
environment but has forgotten to change the language back to English in
LDM's preference menu. He logs off, angry, promising himself he will
check the preferences menu next time, but knowing he is likely to forget
it.
To address this issue, I have two suggestions.
First, LDM could have an option to make the language selection
temporary, only for the immediate login, and the language selection
could revert back to it's previous value afterwise.
Second, LDM could display the currently selected language as an icon /
as text on the login screen (on the bottom of the screen), so the user
could be informed of the selection when he is about to login. This might
not be possible though, since language selection is per user...
** Affects: ldm (Ubuntu)
