I seem to be getting a the same problem on an Acer Ferrari 4004WLMi. I don't recall having used USB storage on any of the occasions I've seen the problem, but the black, unresponsive screen on resume definitely resonates. I left it for a couple of minutes the last time it happened and the CPU fan stepped up a few notches, so I'm guessing something's hitting the CPU hard.
