Public bug reported:
Using the network applet (System|Administration|Network) to configure my
PCI controller-based serial modem fails as the modem cannot be
autodetected. wvdialconf located the modem as /dev/ttyS4 and doing ln
-s /dev/ttyS4 /dev/modem then autodetecting the modem works. It appears
that the modem applet only check ttyS0-ttyS3 (which are also available
from the drop down list, but ttyS4 must be manually typed).
The modem is a 3Com 56K OEM PCI modem (V.90) with a serial controller
(i.e. it is not a winmodem). I can get the exact modem and/or lspci
output if you need it, but I suspect the main thing is the range of
ports checked.
Also, gnome-ppp from universe works fine.
