Testing Karmic alpha 4:

Speakers are muted on headphone insertion
External and internal microphones work (hooray!)

However, I have to switch manually the output to headphones (they are
silent after I insert them) and manually select which mic I'm going to
use, and the locations of these switches are not especially obvious.

Can I suggest that the default behaviour should be that the internal
devices are selected by default, then if external input or output is
detected, the respective internal devices are muted and the input and
output automatically switch to the external devices. In other words,
when I plug in my headphones, I want my notebook to behave sensibly
about it and not to have to ferret about looking for a software switch.
