I'm guessing this is either a BIOS/dsdt bug or lack of support for this
barebone within the linux kernel itself.

Eitherway, it's a really annoying bug... when the laptop battery goes
under a certain percentage my lcd brightness dims (as it's supposed to)
but in order to restore the brightness (after having the laptop plugged
in) I _MUST_ boot up windows. Linux is not able to restore the
brightness on it's own. Also, if X crashes I can't access any
maintenance console terminals, so the only solution is a reboot.

But as you can see, nobody is paying attention to this, it's the first
reply in almost 6 mounths. Anyways, glad to know I'm not alone on this
one :)
