I have been experiencing this problem too since the 9.04 upgrade, but
it's only because of this reported problem that I realized it is from
the G120 USB wireless card.  So thank you so much for posting this.

I just tested it, and the machine boots fine without the wireless card
attached.  I have also confirmed that this somehow prevents a
shutdown/reboot--although the entire shutdown process occurs and
unmounts volumes, just not the part where the machine shuts off or
reboots.

If I use a 2.26 kernel this doesn't happen.  This only happens with 2.27
and 2.28.
