Public bug reported:
While upgrading distro Ubuntu 8.10 -> 9.04, the upgrade asked what to do about
the export (exportfs I guess). I wasn't sure for just a moment, so I opted for
the prompt (something like) "generate a script to evaluate the difference" or
some such.
After selecting that, the prompt dialog went "dead".
0% CPU activity, nothing - completely locked up. Waited for a while, then
decided to force "misbehaving aplication" to quit.
After that I got terminal command prompt at root level. Not knowing what the
original make or whatever was for the big upgrade I checked previous commands
on that prompt : ls & exit.
I ended up re-executing "exit". That continued the upgrade, but it whinged that
nfs-kernel-server would be broken... fair enough. When the upgrade finalised,
turns out the *whole* upgrade failed after all.
I'm still on line in my previous config & vmlinuz etc.
The upgrade advised that my system might be in an unusable state.
Am about to run the recovery dpkg --configure -a.
Have my fingers crossed I didn't waste the last 4 hours & 800 MB of
download....
