Public bug reported:
When I first installed Karmic beta 4, desktop effects were enabled with
the setting "Normal." I set them to "None", then tried to set them back
to "Normal" a few seconds later. A dialog box with a progress bar popped
up saying "Searching for drivers." Then it disappeared and another
dialog box appeared saying that "Desktop effects could not be enabled."
Subsequent attempts to turn them on result in shadows appearing under
the windows (It's on! Yay!), and then things reverting back to Metacity
with the "Desktop effects could not be enabled" dialog (Nooooo).
My graphics card is an Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 0c).
Edit: Oops. Rebooting fixed the issue. I installed an X update yesterday
but never restarted X.
