Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: ubiquity
While trying to install Ubuntu on a 186GB USB 2.0 drive (sdb), the
installer crashes when trying to automatically partition the disk. I
have also tried partitioning in Windows using Partition Magic and
partitioning manually in the Ubuntu setup to select the partitions and
it works fine until it goes to install the boot loader, then crashes.
The attached reports are after I setup the partitions in Partition Magic
and got really far.
My goal is to have the OS and bootloader installed on the USB disk. BIOS
is setup to boot from USB first, and hard disk second, so when I want to
boot into Linux, I just switch on the external USB drive and reboot.
Below is the error message, with the partman log attached.
