Public bug reported:

On my laptop with Intel integrated graphics (X4500), if I connect an
external monitor via the VGA port, and use System->Pref->Displays to set
it to only use the external monitor (and disable the laptop monitor
altogether), when I reboot (happens on every boot), GDM will show on
both screens (this is expected), but once I login, both screens become
black. I need to switch to another VT (both screens would show the VT)
and back to see my GNOME desktop. After that, my laptop screen would
display the VT I switched to, and the external display would show my
GNOME desktop.

I am not sure what part of the system (Xorg, Intel driver, GNOME) is at
fault, but I will try to blame GNOME first :).

Expected behaviour - the external screen shows the GNOME desktop on
login, and the laptop screen should be turned off.

This is on Karmic alpha 4. I didn't notice this behaviour in 9.04 (or
maybe even earlier 9.10 alphas, that I'm not sure).

Thanks!
