1. Log in.
2. Open the logout dialog.
3. Cancel it by pressing Esc.
4. Press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace in order to restart the X server.
The system starts shutting down and then reboots. There is a text
message "rebooting from gdm menu" briefly visible before usplash takes
over.
It should not reboot. It should just restart gdm. If I do not touch
the logout dialog, that's what happens. Somehow the logout dialog
erroneously signals to gdm that I want to reboot if I cancel it.
I keep doing this whenever I need to restart X because the logout dialog
is invisible on my laptop (bug #80343). I usually need to restart X
because of bug #37444. Three *stacked* bugs are pretty irritating, to
put it mildly.
