Public bug reported:
When desktop effects are enabled applications like GoogleEarth or
TuxRacer misbehave.
They either crash or show a lot of display corruption.
E.g. for GoogleEarth when clicking on an icon to open a image a window
is displayed in front of the earth map normally, with desktop effects it
only flashes shortly and vanishes again. Same for Message boxes shown by
GoogleEarth.
Other full screen OpenGL applications tend to render the XServer useless
by not restoring the former resolution.
In principle there is certainly an unavoidable conflict (if not just
performance) in such situations - therefore it makes sense, to have an
option per programm to temporarily disable the deskop effects while such
applications run (user configurable).
Best behavior, however would be, if the desktop-effects would not
interfere with any application.
