era, Thanks a lot. Reinstalled, via 'sudo aptitude reinstall', the emacs22-common package, and Emacs it is working A Ok once again. I sincerely don't have a clue as to why or how the '/usr/share/emacs/22.2/lisp/international/' directory vanished from my system. I keep tabs on all installed updates on my Jaunty, and I don't see anything that might have caused the problem.
