On my system this is also the case when enabling the broadcom drivers.

Sorry, the jockey backend crashed. Please file a bug at:

ubuntu-bug jockey-common

Trying to recover by restarting backend.

I think it has to do that the openwrt website is down, where the firmware is 
fetched from, so after a couple of retries it hangs!
although b43-fwcutter is installed!

terminal:
dpkg-reconfigure b43-fwcutter #let me download again the firmware
