Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-app-install

I am running Karmic Alpha 4 daily. I installed Cheese through synaptic,
but I didn't notice that it had been moved from Graphics to Sound &
Video, so I went to Add/Remove Programs to install it (thinking that
perhaps I had gone crazy - not an unreasonable assumption).

When I looked up Cheese in Add/Remove it was not marked as installed. I
checked the box and then it said:

"Cannot install 'cheese-hildon'

This application conflicts with other installed software. To install
'cheese-hildon' the conflicting software must be removed first. Switch
to the 'synaptic' package manager to resolve this conflict"

I'm on a laptop running GNOME, not an MID running Hildon. For some
reason gnome-app-install thought I needed to install the Hildon edition.

While we're at it, maybe a change could be made to the dialogue so that
instead of saying "Switch to the 'synaptic' package manager" is says
"Switch to the Synaptic Package Manager" (preferably with a link that
opens Synaptic). I could see that being confusing/intimidating for new
users and frustrating for people who don't know what Synaptic is...

** Affects: gnome-app-install (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
