Please disable beryl from starting upon log in than reboot and see if
you can reproduce the freeze. I know beryl 1.999* causes alot of
freezing. to disable it in gnome (if using aiglx) log in open either
gnome-control-center or go to system>prefferences> sessions. and go to
the start up tab and highlight it and disable it. In kde please remove
it from the autostart file that you had to symlink it to. If using XGL
if using the script you had to make you should beable to choose a non
xgl session from gdm/kdm.
