The issue is... FIXED!!!
Running Karmic/KDE 4.3.0, scim 1.4.9.
This is AWESOME. Thank you!!!
Now I can input French with dead keys in all applications without having to
type through scim. I'm sure this will make multilingual support in KDE (maybe
others as well? I'm not sure if gnome/xfce/other wm users were affected as
well) much, much, much more accessible.
So the problem came from scim yeah? Some other threads reporting this bug were
talking about a possible bug in Xorg which was supposedly fixed but never fixed
this issue...
