** Summary changed:

- [Acer TraveMate 8101] suspend/resume problem
+ [Acer TravelMate 8100 series] suspend/resume problem

** Description changed:

Screen does not come back on resume. sysrq-B worked, but I didn't see
any disk activity on other sysrq's. And nothing in the logs, so I wonder
if the ata bus was broken. Could be my disk is dying, since I saw some
errors recently, and have also seen the disk light busy unreasonably
  long.

I will have to swap disk before I can tell for sure, I guess.
+
+ EDIT: Confirmed by Christian in duplicate bug #370887 and he has
+ presumably no disk problems.
+
+ Copied from my description there:
+ "Suspend works fine with 2.6.28-11-generic (except occasional crashes on
resume which I have reported). But with the new kernels (both from Karmic and
-rc3 from Mainline repo) it is totally broken and locks up with a black screen
as soon as I wake it up.
+
+ To narrow things down I have tried in "Recovery Mode" (single user) and
+ with "text", and also with init=/bin/bash, none of which was successful.
+ However, I tried these options with 2.6.28-11-generic and it is also
+ broken: It only works with 2.6.28-11-generic if X is running. It worked
+ on a VT text console though (have to check this again, my memory is
+ faint).
+
+ I checked in pm-suspend.log for the active quirks for this laptop:
+ --quirk-dpms-on --quirk-dpms-suspend --quirk-vbe-post --quirk-vbemode-restore
--quirk-vbestate-restore --quirk-vga-mode-3
+
+ However, specifying these in init=/bin/bash mode, since hal is not
+ running then, did not help."
