dear friend, what u answered is only a minor part of my problem. friend please understand my real problem - ** during the installation of ubuntu 9.04 i partitioned and formatted nearly one-third of the hdd capacity in ext3 file system and the mount point was given(typed, as it wasn't in the list) as 'backup'. I created one partition as 'User' and another one as 'Home' . apart from root and swap. in my system winxp is loaded in the primary partition c:. d and e are ntfs and fat32 formated partitions.** #****after installation of Ubuntu , i can see but cannot use the partition 'backup'. as it is in ext3 it cannot be used from win xp either. if cannot be used during installation ubuntu should not allow to create/type in new mount points. please reply, i dont know how to use that major partition, do i need to install ubuntu again and re partition it. also i think one cannot format a partition in ext3/4 without a pre-determined mount point.****#
