Now that we are passed feature freeze, a feature freeze exception will be needed to allow this into Ubuntu. Since there are not many changes, I think that it is better that we pull any important fixes from libcanberra git and apply them to the current package.
Also note that the new upstrea version introduces a new API function and symbol, which is probably not a good idea at this point in the development cycle.
