Public bug reported:
[Please correct the package for me]
I am using Karmic, currently alpha 4 with all updates applied to late
August.
My hardware is a second-generation MacBook.
When I select 'shutdown' from the System menu or anywhere else, my
programs log out as usual. I then get the ubuntu logo and a progress
meter that proceeds from left to right. It gets to about two-thirds the
way, then my screen goes black.
I get a cursor in the top-left corner of a black text screen. Usually
it just sits there blinking indefinitely. I am able to type onto the
screen, but it does not process anything that I type as a command.
Occasionally I get messages such as "Shutting down Firestarter
application" (I can say that Firestarter was definitely not running
before I hit shutdown", and another time it said "Shutting down NTP
daemon", and then "Starting NTP daemon" immediately afterwards. (Which
seems inappropriate because I told it to shut down).
I never had this problem in Jaunty, or in Karmic until the most recent
updates. Please advise what further information I should provide to
pinpoint the problem.
Richard
