We all appreciate the effort you've spent on this so far in trying to help improve MythTV (and Mythbuntu). Unfortunately, the developers upstream have stopped focusing on 0.21 and older reports in preparation for a 0.22 release later this year. And as you saw, branch changes must be relatively low risk. As such, right now would be the ideal time to try to get more focus on this bug so that it can go into the 0.22 release. Is there any way that you would be willing to try out an alpha version of 0.22 to see if this bug is still reproducible? It may be possible to try it within a virtual machine so as to not corrupt your existing install. If you can reproduce it, we can retry getting some attention to it upstream.
We have builds of mythtv 0.22 available on a PPA to test. Please follow the directions at http://mythbuntu.org/auto-builds to enable them. WARNING: If you intend to revert back to 0.21 after testing (probably not required for VM testing), you will need to back up your database before upgrading.
