Public bug reported:
When adding files to the Desktop they do not show on the Desktop or in
Nautilus. When you do an ls in the terminal or use the file browser
(for things like uploading a file) they files are there. This only
happens to SOME files but not all. If you rename the file they suddenly
show up.
