That's a bug in your BIOS then.
But you could try the USB support of GRUB 2, though it's young and
hasn't been much tested yet.
Better have a Live CD or boot floopy prepared so you can remove the USB
stuff again from grub.cfg

In /boot/grub/grub.cfg:
insmod uhci
insmod usb_keyboard
terminal_input usb_keyboard
